Description: This four-book lot consists of the following: (1) Treasures of the French Renaissance: Architecture, Sculpture, Paintings, Drawings, as described in the above specifications, in Near Fine condition with a slightly bent-at-the top dust jacket. Text is unmarked. (2) French Painting in the XIVth, XVth and XVIth Centuries, by Louis Rêau, Professor at the Sorbonne, printed in 1938 by Hyperion Press in Paris. This is a large, heavy book with a dust jacket in great condition, even considering the age. While some pages are clearly detaching from the binding and most are toning, it's still in remarkable condition for an over eighty-year-old book. Illustrations are mostly in black and white with a few tipped-in pages in color. Text is clean, with faded or erased pencil-marks at the front. (3) Famous Women of the French Court: Women of the Valois Court, by Imbert de Saint-Amand. It was printed in 1898 by Charles Scribner's Sons (New York) - so it should be noted that it's pre-war for both WWI and WWII and has artwork that has since been lost. No dust jacket. This was part of a series on the "famous" or "fabulous" women of the French Court over many different eras. It is inscribed at the front by family members so it was re-gifted, including in 1946 and 1984. (4) Literature and Nation in the Sixteenth Century: Inventing Renaissance France, by Timothy Hampton. Printed 2001, by Cornell University. Condition is Near Fine, hardback book with dust jacket with a spine that may or may not have faded from gray to green (I can't tell if it's intentional or not). A great lot for the art history buff, or SCA/renaissance faire reenactor with an emphasis on French history. Downsizing a large library. Non-smoking home with a cat in residence. All books are sent in protective packing materials.
