Description: Henri De Toulouse-LautrecLa Loge au Mascaron Doré (The Opera)1893 Normal 0 21 false false false NL JA X-NONE Up for sale now this hard to find beautiful old litho of “La Loge au Mascaron Doré” by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Limited first edition by Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, printed by Luii & Co. This is mentioned below the print. This litho is not numbered. It is unclear how many prints were made, but regarding the fact that only a few are known to be left, the edition must have been considerably limited. This litho you can buy here was published by Stedelijk Museum between 1930 and 1950. The museum organized two applicable exhibitions in that period. One in 1938 entitled ‘One hundred years of French Art’. And another one in 1947 together with Relations Culturelles called ‘Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’. The original lithograph was designed in 1893 to decorate the playbill for Marcel Luguet's "Le Missionnaire" at the Théâtre Libre in Paris France. In it you see a red-haired woman wearing a black dress, is looking through opera glasses, while standing in a theatrical box decorated with a golden mask. The first litho print edition of the colour crayon, brush and spatter original work, was published in 1894. It concerned an edition of 100 prints, made by Kleinmann of Paris and signed by de Toulouse-Lautrec in pencil. The number in blue crayon plus a blindstamp of Kleinmann, with address: "PARIS/8, Rue de la Victoire" (L.1573) was added by Kleinmann. These 100 are the valuable lithos you see in museums. Original print no. 24 for example, is owned by The British Museum. Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, owner of no. 34/100 states: “The title of this print refers to the gilded mask on the balustrade of the theatre box. The woman’s companion is a friend of Lautrec, the English artist Charles Conder. The intriguing composition was inspired by the interplay of lines and the cropping in Japanese woodcuts. This lithograph was intended as the programme of a play and is a fine example of effective and sparing use of colour.”Publisher: Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam Printed by: Luii & Co, art printshop AmsterdamThis VINTAGE item is in excellent condition.
