Description: 1937 Original Poster « Salon des Humoristes » Date: 1937 Size: 15 ¾ x 23 ¾ inches (40 x 60 cm) Linen Backed Artist: Musson, Suzanne This original French poster was designed by Suzanne Musson for the Salon des Humoristes in 1937. The Salon has been a meeting and exhibition venue for illustrators and caricaturists since its founding in 1907. The poster features a row of humoristes lined up holding their pens, brushes, and pencils like soldiers, and perhaps as a cheeky poke at "serious" artists, they are wearing clown pants and shoes to contrast their traditional painter's smocks. The Salon has hosted many famous illustrators and artists over the years including Marcel Duchamp and Varlin. The typeface featured in the poster most likely designed by Musson became renowned, garnering a following amongst designers. The poster is linen-backed and in excellent condition. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction.
